Applications for artists' studios at Spike Island are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed on a quarterly basis. The next deadline is coming up on Friday 3 February.

Artists’ Studios

We offer seventy low cost working spaces to artists who would otherwise find it difficult to afford studios. These are divided into two self-administering groups: Top Floor Studios, ideal for artists who need good quality daylight but are not engaged in work that requires heavy machinery, and Sculpture Studios, which are suitable for artists who need heavy or noisy equipment, hazardous materials or ground floor access.

The studios are part of Spike Island’s unique and dynamic creative environment. A year-round programme of exhibitions, talks and activities takes place in the galleries, while an international programme of residencies and fellowships brings artists and designers to Spike Island to make new work. The Associates programme is an informal, self-directed network of artists, designers, curators and writers affiliated with Spike Island. The building offers a range of other working environments including private offices and open plan desk space.

Spike Island is one of the largest and most comprehensive organisations in Europe dedicated to the production and exhibition of contemporary art and design. We are located in an 80,000 square foot building in the Cumberland Basin at the edge of Bristol’s Harbourside.
