The hugely popular annual Open Studios weekend invites visitors to explore behind the scenes of this former Brooke Bond tea packing factory, now a centre for art and design.
Spike Island, besides running a distinguished programme of contemporary art exhibitions, is a vibrant hub of creativity for Bristol and the South West. Home to over 70 artists’ studios, a print studio, UWE fine art course and many other creative practitioners including designers, film-makers, animators and photographers, Spike Island is a key contributor to Bristol’s thriving cultural life.
Artists throw open their studio doors for visitors to explore their working environment, to learn what they do, why and how. Cally Spooner’s new exhibition is open in the main gallery, while performances, presentations, installations, interventions and film-screenings take place around the rest of the building. Spike Print Studio, Spike Associates and Spike Design host events, activities and introductory tours, and with food and drink is served by guest-caterers and Spike Island’s own popular café. Expect some fantastic art and all kinds of sensory delight, fascination and surprise!
