Current Dreamtime Fellow, Lou Baker said:
The bursary has been really helpful. It’s given me freedom to be more aspirational with the scale of my work as I’ve been able to be buy the tools and materials I need. It’s also paid for an online networking course.
It has been wonderful having the studio space and the time to develop work at Spike Island. Being mentored by Luke Jerram and the Spike curators has also been invaluable. The Fellowship has helped me to be much more ambitious with my ideas.
Being involved in Spike Island Open Studios has definitely been a highlight for me. I’ve had so many other opportunities here too – a promotional photoshoot and video session, running a ‘making and wellbeing’ session for UWE students, hosting a work placement student, having access to the resources available at Spike Island, artists’ talks, incidental conversations in the corridors.. and more. I’ve been very grateful to be part of such an active community of professional artists.
