2023 Dreamtime Fellowship at Spike Island awarded to Lou Baker

The 2023 Dreamtime Fellowship, initiated and funded by Bristol-based artist Luke Jerram, has been awarded to Lou Baker.

Baker holds an MA in Fine Art from Bath Spa University and her work has been included in Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2022, The Holburne Open with seam collective, and Bath Spa University’s studio residency programme, EMERGE.

Baker’s practice combines sculpture and social engagement. She creates immersive and site-specific installations alongside knitted sculptures. In her work, Baker invites audiences to become active participants through touch, collaboration and co-creation. Baker’s works are often provocations – to thought, conversation and action.

Baker has access to a studio space at Spike Island for a year and receives a bursary of £5,000 and three one-to-one mentoring sessions with Luke Jerram. She is also granted Spike Island Associates membership, which offers studio visits from artists, critics and curators, and free access to regular talks, as well as other forms of peer-to-peer learning and support.

THE DREAMTIME FELLOWSHIP

Initiated and funded by established Bristol-based artist Luke Jerram in 2019, the Dreamtime Fellowship is open to Bristol-based artists who have graduated from a BA or MA Fine Art course from any institution within the last five years.
