Spike Island receives a grant from the Arts Council England and DCMS Culture Recovery Fund

We are delighted and relieved that Spike Island has been awarded £189,306 by Arts Council England and DCMS as part of the Culture Recovery Fund. In the immediate future, this vital boost allows Spike Island to stay afloat and to rebuild towards a position of financial sustainability. It means that our charitable organisation can continue to play a crucial role in supporting artists, arts professionals and creative businesses, whilst ensuring access to art for everyone through our exhibitions and events, whether that be in person or online. This will begin with reopening our galleries to the public with Denzil Forrester’s exhibition Itchin & Scratchin from Saturday 17 October (with additional Covid-safe measures in place).

We hope that this good news is reflected across Bristol and nationwide as the cultural sector gets the support it needs and deserves to recover from the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
