Spoon Fed is a simple soup social and independent micro-funding scheme that offers a direct, uncomplicated way of engaging with Bristol’s arts community. These roaming bimonthly events are hosted by the Collect, a cooperative of creative producers, and have been running since February 2012. So far they have raised £961.50 to support five projects.

A grant of £350, £150, or even just £50, can make a big difference to an artist, writer, performer, or musician. This may enable them to complete a piece of work or travel to participate in an exhibition or event, but there are currently very few avenues for securing this relatively low level of funding. These bimonthly events aim to develop a strong, generous and diverse network of local practitioners and audiences by offering a platform for sharing practices and facilitating discussion.

Here’s how it works:

• Artists, writers, performers, filmmakers, musicians et al. submit proposals to be considered for funding. These are available to view on the Collect's website in advance.

• At the event, all attendees are asked to donate a minimum of £5 (cash on the door), which goes into a prize pot. In return you'll share a simple soup meal and receive one vote to determine who wins the sum of the donations.

• During the event each submission is introduced in a brief presentation to the audience.

• At the end of the evening, votes are counted. The winner receives the full amount of the evening’s donations and will be invited to present the outcomes of their project at the next event.

But it's not just about the money: Spoon Fed is a great place to find out about what's going on in Bristol, to make connections and to meet collaborators. So whether you come along as a presenter or an audience member, you're making a valuable contribution to our local creative economy.

Spoon Fed is inspired by and part of the international Sunday Soup network. It is produced by the Collect and it is a Guttural Olympiad legacy project. December's Spoon Fed is generously supported by Mark's Bread, Bristol Sweet Mart and Spike Island.
