This special collaboration between Spike Island, Ujima Radio and Africa Week at UWE Bristol took place in the final week of Lubaina Himid’s exhibition at Spike Island on 23 March 2017.
It featured a Mavazi ya kanga fashion show by Christelle Pellecuer, music by DJ Style from Ujima Radio, live poetry from Lawrence Hoo, UWE student spoken word and dance, Breathing Fire theatre and African-inspired food. Following the welcome speeches, film director Florence Ayisi launched us into the evening with an introductory talk.
