Each year, Spike Island offers fellowships to promising emerging artists selected through an open call to graduating students. Fellows are awarded a studio at Spike Island for one year, giving them space and support to develop their professional practices within Bristol’s vibrant artistic community.

Join us for an evening of presentations, installations and networking with the Spike Island community, wishing best of luck to our outgoing and incoming Fellows.

This event sees our new Graduate Fellows 2025–26 introduce themselves and their practices, alongside our outgoing Graduate Fellows 2024–25, who share their experiences and aspirations for the future.

Alongside their presentations, the 2024–25 cohort will present a selection of work, and The Museum of Roadside Magic – a travelling archive of imagined folklore by artist Libby Bove – will be open for visitors to explore before and after the talks.

Graduate Fellows for 2025–26:

Aphra Beart-Albrecht (UWE Bristol), Noah Cole (UWE Bristol), Taiki Nakagawa (UWE Bristol) and Nahraine Al-Khafaji (Bath Spa University).

Graduate Fellows 2024–25:

Alice Farrington (UWE Bristol), Amy Coaten (UWE Bristol), Hannah Hornby (UWE Bristol) and Libby Bove (Bath Spa University), as well as Alexis Over Papatzaneteas, the Dreamtime Fellow 2024–25, a programme funded and supported by established Bristol-based artist Luke Jerram.

The Museum of Roadside Magic

The Museum of Roadside Magic is a travelling archive of imagined folklore brought to you by artist and museum custodian Libby Bove.

The term ‘Roadside Magic’ relates to the study of folk ritual, plant knowledge and magic, in the repair, maintenance and operation of vehicles. It also encompasses practices associated with journey-making of all kinds, whether by foot, hoof or handcart. It is the only known archive of its kind and holds an extensive collection of artefacts, costumes and photographs.
