Helen K Grant is interested in the humour, failure and pathos of human interaction. She uses painting, sculpture and installation to describe her frustration with communication and employs a lo-fi, punk rock sensibility to deftly depict what goes unsaid or unheard. Grant’s recent work makes use of symbols from familiar yet unfathomable sources: chevrons displaced from hazard signs, flags and cushions based on archaic naval alphabets, and paintings made from carrier bag graphics. In 2018 she exhibited at Arcade Cardiff and was in residence at Caban 35 in West Wales. She also co-runs Test Space, an artist-led project and exhibition space at Spike Island, and is a member of the infamous collaboration Back in 5 Squad.
