THE EXCHANGE: Open Call

Open to current members of Spike Island Associates

Spike Island Associates are pleased to participate in THE EXCHANGE, a new initiative connecting artists and creative practitioners across the UK. Framed by the simple invitation to begin a conversation, THE EXCHANGE aims to support and sustain creative practices and to generate new creative relationships, despite the limitations caused by national and localised lockdowns and social distancing.

Participating in THE EXCHANGE are networks from CAMP, Plymouth; G39 / WARP, Cardiff; The NewBridge Project, Gateshead / Newcastle; Spike Island / Spike Island Associates, Bristol; Turf Projects, Croydon, South London.

How it works

The Exchange follows an open-ended process with no limits or boundaries. From an open call organised by each network, 10 practitioners will be selected to participate and each paired with someone from another network. There is no formal requirement to collaborate or generate an outcome and participants are able to communicate however they wish, at a frequency to suit the pairing. The programme starts in February 2021 when the pairs will be introduced over email, and runs through to July when Eastside Projects will host a public sharing event. Every month each partner organisation will also facilitate an activity for the participants that focuses on creative exchange.

To participate, you must already be a member of Spike Island Associates (or another one of the partner networks), if you are not yet a member you can sign up today.

If you are a member, to apply you must send:

  • A short expression of interest (about 200 words / 2-minute audio or video submission) outlining why you would like to be involved, and what you hope to gain from the experience
  • A website and/or social media link

Application deadline is 20 January 2021.
