Spike Island is excited to announce a new Engagement partnership with Streams Learning Hub, a co-learning space for young people in central Bristol.
From October 2025, Spike Island will be hosting Streams Learning Hub’s new GCSE Art course, embedding their students into Spike Island’s creative community, and offering their young people opportunities for professional development.
The GCSE Art sessions will be led by Gemma Lane, founder of Green Fox Workshops. Gemma shares her love and enthusiasm for art and art education with diverse communities, providing sociable and accessible art workshops for all.
This new partnership highlights Spike Island and Streams Learning Hub’s shared commitment to nurturing artistic practice through the creative empowerment of communities.
About Spike Island
Spike Island supports, produces and presents contemporary art across an 80,000 square foot former industrial building near Bristol’s harbourside. Our artistic programme includes free exhibitions, events and engagement activities taking place on-site and online. The programme champions outstanding work by emerging and underrepresented local, national and international artists, and enhances access to contemporary art and culture for audiences from all backgrounds.

Streams Learning Hub is a co-learning space for teens in central Bristol. They provide a flexible space for young people (~12+) to gather and learn together through workshops and events.
The Hub is a place where innovative learning experiences can be enjoyed and developed; a community of life long, life wide, life deep learners.
Their mission is to create a safe and nurturing environment rich in learning opportunities enabling young people to pursue their passions and discover a deep sense of self.

Green Fox Workshops
Green Fox Workshops was set up by the artist and trained secondary school art teacher, Gemma Lane in 2016. Green Fox Workshops offers support in calm and nurturing way to help build up confidence and enthusiasm for art, by tailoring the planning to encourage and excite students by focusing on subject matter that interested them.
The initiative works across demographics, including secondary education and school visits, as well as bookable packages such as hen dos and team building sessions.
The initiative has collaborated with cultural institutions across the UK, including Bishops Palace in Wells, Tyntesfield National Trust in Bristol, Hestercombe House in Taunton, SS Great Britain.
