The artists shortlisted this year are: Sadia Pineda Hameed, Ilona Sagar, Rhea Storr and Alia Syed. In partnership with Watershed, the programme will also feature a Q&A with Sadia Pineda Hameed and curator of Spike Island, Clémentine Proby.

Inspired by visionary British filmmaker Derek Jarman, the Award recognises and supports artists working with the moving image. The shortlisted artists illustrate the spirit of inventiveness within moving image, highlighting the breadth of creativity and craftsmanship the medium has to offer, as well as its powerful ability to engage and provoke audiences. The Award comes with a £10,000 prize.

The winner of the Film London Jarman Award will be announced on the 24 November 2026. The award is presented in partnership with the Whitechapel Gallery.

The tour runs from 22 September 2026 to 21 January 2027, in partnership with nine arts venues across the UK.

SADIA PINEDA HAMEED

Sadia Pineda Hameed is a Filipina Pakistani artist based in the Ebbw Valley, Wales, whose work explores ways to speak about collective and intergenerational trauma through anticolonial strategies of dreaming, telepathic communion and secrets. Using 16mm film and hi8 video, sculptural installation, text and performance, her work imagines what future tools for resistance, value and communication springing from these strategies might look like. Her practice is led by processes of associative journeying in resistance to western historicisation and displacement; mythmaking, melodrama and decoy become playful devices to speak through a ‘delirious discourse’ where personal archives and collective experiences converge.

She has shown with Iniva, Brent Biennial (2022), The Crypt Gallery and The Mosaic Rooms in London; The Bluecoat, Liverpool; The Box, Plymouth; Nottingham Contemporary, Nottingham; Catalyst Arts, Belfast; Tangent Projects, Barcelona; Zamek, Poznan; Mostyn, Llandudno; Glynn Vivian, Swansea; Chapter Arts Centre, g39 and Arcade/Campfa, Cardiff, amongst others.

She was awarded the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Porthmeor Studio Residency (2026); Arts Council Wales Perspectives Fellowship (2024); British School at Rome Fellowship (2023); Freelands Fellowship (2022); Jerwood UNIT(e) Residency (2021) and the Paul Hamlyn Award for Visual Artists (2021). Her films have been selected for Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival (2026); Wales One World Film Festival (2026); FOCUS Wales (2026) and Queer East Film Festival (2025).
