Taking an inquisitive, playful approach to learning through observation, shared cultural knowledge and visual ephemera, Anglo-American artist Steven Paige explores the intersection of physical and digital archives. His multidisciplinary practice—spanning video, performance, installation, photography, and print—often involves re-interpreting historical accounts, both real and imagined. He frequently engages in acts of remaking or reperforming archival material to examine themes of memory, liveness, and identity through a queer lens.
In 2016/17 Paige was awarded an AHRC/British Council Kluge Research Fellowship in the Moving Picture Library Collections at the Library of Congress, Washington DC, USA as part of his PhD research. His recent solo exhibitions include:
