Kamina Walton

Kamina Walton works with photography and installation and gained a BA (Hons) in Film, Video & Photographic Arts at the Polytechnic of Central London in the early 1980s, and an MA in Design & Media Arts at the University of Westminster in the mid-1990s. She has been a studio holder at Spike Island since 2008. A crucial element of her practice involves collaboration with others, working with people of all ages in diverse settings. The work she has produced and exhibited over the years has grown from these collaborations, exploring a range of challenging issues as well as a sense of community.

In September 2015 Walton founded Rising Arts Agency, a Bristol-based social enterprise supporting 16–25 year olds who have an ambition to work in the creative sector. Rising's aim is to reduce disadvantage and inequality by encouraging and supporting those young people who have previously felt excluded and under-represented to actively participate across the sector. Rising is co-created with young people for young people and offers industry professional mentoring support, skills development, platforms to showcase work, commissioning opportunities, creative leadership training and networking.
