The 2021 Dreamtime Fellowship, initiated with funding and support from Luke Jerram, is awarded to Bristol-based artist Dolores McGurran.

Dolores graduated from UWE Bristol with a BA in Fine Art in September 2019. Working across installation, interactive art, video, 3D, sculpture and paint, her work varies between minimal pieces, complex multi-dimensional forms and other worldly spaces. Dolores’s work focuses on issues surrounding identity and other contemporary events, often exploring social, political or environmental concerns.

“I like to view myself and my work as joyfully cynical. I like to create work that’s expressive and emotionally motivated. As well as at times being gritty, dark, funny, social/political, optimistic and nihilistic.”

Dolores has access to a studio space at Spike Island for a year and is granted Spike Associates membership, which offers studio visits from artists, critics and curators, and free access to regular talks, as well as other forms of peer-to-peer learning and support. Dolores also receives a bursary of £5,000 and three one-to-one mentoring sessions with Luke Jerram throughout the year.

THE DREAMTIME FELLOWSHIP

Initiated with funding and support from established Bristol-based artist Luke Jerram, Spike Island announced this new fellowship opportunity in 2019 for a recent graduate artist living in Bristol. The opportunity is open to artists who have graduated from a BA or MA Fine Art course from any institution within the last five years.
