Spike Island is recruiting for an Assistant Curator: Exhibitions and Artist Development

Spike Island is a dynamic arts centre that supports, produces and presents contemporary art and culture. We engage audiences in our work through a diverse programme of exhibitions and interdisciplinary events; and we directly support artists through new commissions and critically-engaged artist development opportunities that widen access to our programme and facilities.

To support this mission, we offer bespoke production and exhibition services, and provide subsidised studios and co-working spaces for artists, designers and artist-led organisations based in the South West. We also provide office spaces for creative businesses and host the UWE Bristol Fine Art programmes.

The role

The Assistant Curator: Exhibitions and Artist Development will support the Curator to develop and deliver Spike Island’s exhibitions and artist development programmes, including Open Studios, Spike Associates, Graduate Fellowships, Syllabus and artist residencies. This post will underpin a renewed commitment to these areas of work, enabling Spike Island to better support a diverse range of artists, including those based in the South West, to engage in research and build sustainable careers in the arts.

We are looking for a person with the energy, experience and commitment to take on this role. You will be an integral part of Spike Island’s Programme team. Coordinating with staff across the organisation, you will contribute to a culture of good communication and strong support for artists, and help to ensure that the programme engages a growing number and range of audiences.

The position is offered full-time (35hrs per week) at £21,112 p.a.

Please note that regular evening and weekend work will be necessary to effectively support programme delivery, though time off in lieu may be taken to compensate for this.
