Spike Island

Patrick Staff

1 September to 26 July 2014

Patrick Staff (b.1987) is a British artist based in London. Through September Staff will take up a short residency at Spike Island as the final stage of production for a new ambitious project The Foundation, a co-commission between Spike Island Bristol, Chisenhale Gallery London, Institute of Modern Art Brisbane and Contemporary Art Gallery Vancouver, resulting in a large scale single screen video installation to be presented in major solo exhibitions at the institutions in 2015.

The Foundation explores the collection, physical experience and community of the Tom of Finland Foundation in Los Angeles through compiled discussions, interviews, observational footage and choreographed re-enactments.  This new work continues Staff’s interests in discipline, dissent, labour and the body through the historical and contemporary narration of counter-culture and radical activity.
