Katy Connor

Dr Katy Connor (b. 1973) is a visual artist working in the space between the corporeal and the digital.

Drawing on the ambiguous relationship between body and machine, her work explores how our lives are mediated by technologies in a dynamic both alienating and empowering. Her recent PhD Translating the Intimate (2016) explores the material translations of blood – through poetic processes of atomic force microscopy, computational modelling and laser sintered nylon sculpture.

She has undertaken artist residencies in both science and engineering labs (Synthesis UCL/Arts Catalyst, 2011) and remote places (Arctic Circle, 2015 and OUTLANDIA, 2013) and as artist in residence at Bristol University (2017) is considering the lab-based practice of eryrthropoeisis: the culturing of human red blood cells.

Recent exhibitions include: A Place For You To Dream, Republic, London (2017); Zero Landscape, Bristol (2016); CONTACT/SURFACE, Exeter (2015); Transmediale Berlin (2013); Lumen Prize, New York, London and Hong Kong (2014).
