African Queen was a photography exhibition that explores and celebrates the history of both real and legendary queens of Africa or of African origin. The collection looks at issues related to history, culture, women’s empowerment, strength and beauty.

The exhibition was a collaboration between Christelle Pellecuer, local photographers and several women from the community who are portraying the ‘African queen’.

Test Space

Test Space is programmed by studio holders based at Spike Island and offers artists a chance to exhibit new works and test ideas. Artists from within the Spike Island community and beyond are included.

Christelle Pellecuer

Christelle Pellecuer is a makeup artist specialised in fashion and media makeup. She has worked at Fashion Week in London, Paris and New York, and on TV shows, music videos, fashion shows and product launches. She is also a fashion stylist and has styled models at various photoshoots. She is also a creative director and has been producing several fashion shows, working collaboratively with designers, artists and fashion creatives in the region.

Outside of her freelance work, Christelle works at Univeristy of the West of England (UWE), Bristol as Global Student Support Coordinator, providing transition support for international students and organising orientation, welcome and social events for these students.
