Support Melissa Gordon's Residency

We’re excited to share with you a new experiment in crowd funding that we’re undertaking with artist Melissa Gordon ahead of her exhibition Material Evidence, which opens here at Spike Island on 5 July.

If you’re not familiar with Melissa’s work, she’s an American-born, London-based artist who has exhibited widely in Europe and the United States. Her work as a painter and printmaker follows the cyclical relationship between surface and reproduction, representation and abstraction, seeing and reading. She was the winner of the ABN AMRO Kunstprijs 2007 and the Royal Prize for Painting in the Netherlands in 2005, and studied at Rhode Island School of Design, Cooper Union in New York and De Ateliers in Amsterdam.

With your support, we’re hoping to raise at least £4000 to cover the costs of her residency at Spike Print Studio in April and May to produce new prints and paintings for the exhibition.

In a Kickstarter campaign that launches this morning, we’re offering a range of limited edition prints that offer you the opportunity to own a piece of original artwork for as little as £10.  We expect these will go quickly so snatch them up early!

Highlights include:

  • An edition of 50 A4 prints from just £40

  • A VIP exhibition preview with Melissa and curator Marie-Anne McQuay from £100

  • An edition of 15 full scale prints from £200

  • An afternoon one-to-one screenprinting with Melissa for £300
