We are one of four visual arts organisations in the region currently working with Visual Arts South West and Annabel Jackson Associates Ltd. to undertake research into the quality of vistors’ experience.
Spike Island’s vision is to position art as central to society, and our mission is to support artists and designers and to facilitate audiences’ encounters with them. We do this in two ways: by offering a high quality, challenging programme of exhibitions and events; and by fostering a dynamic and critically engaged community of artists and designers. Through undertaking this research we hope to better understand how audiences interact with Spike Island, how we’re doing in achieving our mission and what we might do to improve.
As part of the project, we are establishing a panel of visitors who will meet six times over the next year, and we are inviting interested individuals to take part. This is an exciting opportunity for us to find out more about what Spike Island means to you, and for you to be part of a group whose feedback will affect the way we work.
We are looking for a broad range of ages, interests and backgrounds, but there are a few criteria for participation. If you’d like to take part, you should:
Have visited Spike Island previously and have some familiarity with our programme
Not be involved professionally in or studying contemporary visual art
Live within 10 miles of Bristol
Not serve on another organisation’s board or panel
Be able to attend at least five of the six meetings
Panel meetings will take place at Spike Island on the following Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8pm: 13 March 2013, 15 May 2013, 17 July 2013, 9 October 2013, 11 December 2013 and 26 February 2014. The gallery will be kept open from 5 to 6pm for you to view the exhibitions if you haven’t already, and the format of the sessions will be a short written questionnaire followed by an informal conversation.
In return for your generous commitment and valuable input, we are offering the following benefits to panel members:
Free entrance to all ticketed events at Spike Island from March 2013 to February 2014
Food and drink at each panel meeting
Copies of all Spike Island publications produced for exhibitions from March 2013 to February 2014
A Spike Island canvas bag
10% off in Spike Café at weekends from March 2013 to February 2014
10% off Spike Island Editions from March 2013 to February 2014
Hard copies of the form are available – please contact us to request a copy.
We regret that there are a limited number of spaces on the panel, but everyone who expresses interest in taking part will be invited to share their thoughts and experiences throughout the year in online and/or written surveys.
For any questions or an informal chat about the visitor panel, please contact Anna Searle Jones, communications manager, by email or on 0117 929 2266.
