Each year, the University of the West of England and Spike Island offer two outstanding graduates from the Fine Art BA and Art and Visual Cultures BA programmes a residency fellowship. Two artists, selected from an open call to students, are offered studio space at Spike Island and access to facilities at UWE’s Bower Ashton campus for a year. This opportunity aims to support and encourage young artists in Bristol as they begin to develop their professional practices. The current UWE and Spike Island Graduate Fellows are Claire Sharpe and Sarah Wilton, and previous recipients include Marie Toseland, Laura Phillips, Joe Gower and Berenice Gayer.
We’re delighted to announce that the UWE and Spike Island Graduate Fellows for 2012-13 are Menna Cominetti and Sebastian Jefford. Their time here begins in October, and they will introduce themselves and their practices at a public event shortly thereafter.
