Spike Island

Wish You Were Here

As part of the Happenstance project, current creative technologist in residence Kevin Walker invited Spike Island artists, designers and staff to contribute a postcard design to Wish You Were Here, an interactive installation for the Spike Island Open.

Within just a few days, we had the following beautiful cards with drawings, prints, photos and digital designs. Amy Mason, former Spike Island writer in residence, then wrote a non-linear story, a portion of which is written on the back of each card.

In the exhibition, the postcards were each embedded with a wireless digital (RFID) tag, and when placed on a special reader, displayed the name of each designer on an adjacent computer screen, with links to further info. Visit Kevin's blog to read more about the process behind this project.
